Saving electricity for environmental protection

This year again, in support of the global initiative “Earth Hour”, Cementarnica USJE AD Skopje decided to switch off for one hour the cement mills as well as part of the lighting in the Plant. The electrical power was disconnected on 26th March (Saturday) from 20:30 to 21:30, when the supporters and participants worldwide did the same.

“Supporting this global initiative in USJE is fully in compliance with our determination for environmental promotion. Such actions convey a very strong message that it is feasible to take specific measures against global warming. In the forthcoming period, we shall in various ways continue to give our active contribution for environmental protection”, Boris Hrisafov, Chief Executive Director of Cementarnica USJE AD Skopje, emphasized.

Along with the cement mills, the Company disconnected the electrical power supply in the other facilities where the safety measures allow such action. With the one-hour switch-off of the facilities, USJE saved 10MW/h electrical energy which is equal to a 3-hour production volume of the hydropower plant Matka. The electricity saving from the cement mills switch-off at USJE is approximately equal to the amount of the total consumption of over 3.000 households in Skopje.
