By turning off the cement mills, Cementarnica USJE AD Skopje joined the global action "Earth Hour". The mills of the company remained one hour without electricity supply in the period from 20:30 to 21:30 hours on Saturday, March 23rd. In same time, the supporters of this action worldwide switched off the power supply in their homes, organizations, companies and factories.
Cementarnica USJE AD saved 10 MWh of electricity by shutting the cement mills, which is equal to the electricity consumption of more than 3.000 households in Skopje. Apart from turning off the cement mills, the Company turned off the electricity supply in the other plants as well, where safety measures allow.
"Cementarnica USJE AD Skopje cares for the environmental protection and we demonstrate this sincere determination in our daily commitments and activities. Only in this way, we can talk about the concern for the environment that will bear results. By joining this global initiative, we want to raise awareness among the other to be more engaged and act on this plan", said Boris Hrisafov, Chief Executive Director of Cementarnica USJE AD Skopje.
Cementarnica USJE AD Skopje is among the companies that fully implemented the Environmental A license before the deadline in 2014. This permit includes work according to the highest principles and regulations for environmental protection. Even more important is that this permission implies the existence of a system of continuous control and improvement processes.
Cementarnica Usje AD Skopje for the fifth year in a row is part of this global action that received the support of hundreds of millions of people, companies and organizations in 5.200 different cities of 135 countries around the world, which has grown into the biggest event for the protection of the environment. Since December 2008, USJE is member of the United Nations Global Compact. By signing this Compact, Cementarnica USJE AD Skopje accepts the ten principles of good corporate governance, including the protection of the environment.
