Cementarnica Usje AD will switch off its cement mills to join the global action “Earth Hour”. The company’s cement mills will be left without electricity for one hour in the period from 20:30 to 21:30 on 31st March this year, when the supporters and participants in this global action will do the same.

By switching off the cement mills Cementarnica Usje AD will save 10MWh electrical energy, or approximately the amount of the consumption of over 3000 households in Skopje. At the same time the lights will be switched off in those locations in the company where the safety measures for occupational safety and health allow that.

“As a socially responsible company, Cementarnica Usje AD makes efforts to improve and protect the environment through its operations. Our decision to join the global action “Earth Hour” clearly confirms our commitment for active involvement for a better future. We will continue in the following period too to give our contribution for protection of the environment” emphasized Boris Hrisafov, Chief Executive Officer at Cementarnica Usje AD.

Fourth year in a row, Cementarnica Usje AD has been a part of this global action that gained the support of hundreds of millions of people, companies and organizations in 5.200 cities from 135 countries throughout the world, becoming the largest environment protection event.

Since December 2008, Cementarnica Usje AD is a local member of the Global Compact of the United Nations (UN). By signing the Global Compact, Cementarnica Usje AD accepted the ten principles for good corporative management, among which is the respect of the environment.
